Euronext has expressed a willingness to partner with Deutsche Börse. CEO Stéphane Boujnah told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” that the two exchanges have many opportunities for joint work. He added that a merger is not currently being considered. “Deutsche Börse wants to stay independent, and at the same time Euronext is not for sale” Boujnah said, noting that past talks about a combined entity had stalled without result.
The discussion comes amid wider plans for a European “super‑exchange” a concept recently championed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). Boujnah and Merz have yet to meet in person; Boujnah told the newspaper that he would welcome an audience with the chancellor.
Looking forward, Boujnah stresses that companies themselves must shoulder responsibility for Europe’s future. “We need more interaction between firms across all sectors to build joint projects instead of waiting for directives from above” he said. “We can no longer rely on Ursula von der Leyen, Friedrich Merz, or Emmanuel Macron to provide the direction; we must make it happen ourselves”.
