The European Council, in the conclusions of its meeting released Thursday evening, called for a moratorium on attacks against energy and water infrastructure in the Middle East. It expressed regret over the loss of life and highlighted the far‑reaching consequences of the fighting, especially for economic stability. The Council also condemned Iran’s indiscriminate attacks on regional states and voiced its solidarity with the affected countries.
While welcoming the strengthened efforts announced by Member States to safeguard freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Council added that such measures would only take effect once the relevant conditions were met. Consequently, it rejected President Donald Trump’s call for the immediate intervention of European states in the Gulf, insisting instead that all hostilities be ended first.
Regarding rising energy prices, the Commission was urged to consider proposing appropriate measures if necessary, though no specific actions were detailed.
