Christian Eichner will no longer be the head coach of Karlsruher SC starting next season. The second-tier league announced on Wednesday that a coaching change will take place in the 2026/27 season, confirming reports from the media. This decision was reportedly made “following several intensive discussions”.
Mario Eggimann, the club’s sports director, acknowledged Eichner’s recognized status at the club, stating, “There is no doubt regarding the importance of Christian Eichner to KSC. Over the years, Christian has developed into a flagship figure for our club through good work and dedication”. However, he added that, “In our responsibility for KSC, it is our duty to evaluate and question the overall situation at all times”. The feeling, according to Eggimann, had solidified over time: after six and a half years of working together, the club has reached a point in its development that requires new creative impulses for the future.
Eichner first took over the head coach role at KSC in February 2020, having previously served as the interim head coach in 2017. Currently, the Karlsruhe team occupies a steady mid-table position, ranked ninth in the 2. Bundesliga standings.
