Bundesbildungsministerin Karin Prien (CDU) stresses that boys need better support. “We can’t focus only on girls and completely ignore boys” she told the “Wochentag”. According to the minister, boys often feel disadvantaged and unseen in both family life and school. She points to other countries to show what can happen when this gap widens. “Boys have substantially higher suicide rates and are more susceptible to extremism-not only right‑wing but also Islamist” Prien said. “That really concerns me”. The minister, who has three sons herself, argues that gender equality is not solely women’s politics but also men’s politics. She stresses that she wants to prevent a situation in which men see themselves as losers.
