DGB Urges 10-Year Extension of Industrial Electricity Cuts Amid Economic Stress

In light of the persistently tense economic climate, the German Confederation of Trade Unions (Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund, DGB) has advocated for extending electricity subsidies for businesses. DGB board member Stefan Körzell told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that although the industrial electricity price would take effect from 2026, companies would only see the relief applied retroactively next year. Körzell also noted that the current support is capped at three years. He stressed that a more effective solution would be a regulation that takes effect immediately and guarantees an internationally competitive electricity price for a decade, thereby giving firms the planning certainty they need.
