Deutsche Telekom Set to Embed AI Assistants Into Phone Calls Offering Chatbots and Live Translation

Deutsche Telekom plans to embed artificial intelligence directly into its mobile network, aiming to make services such as AI chatbots and real‑time translation more accessible to a broad user base. Board member Abdu Mudesir, who heads the company’s technology strategy, announced this in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. The AI assistant will be formally introduced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week and can be activated by the phrase “Hey Magenta” joining phone calls and answering questions live. It will also be available on basic feature phones, so customers won’t need an expensive smartphone. Mudesir said the assistant will act as a trustworthy partner for all customers and will include additional functions such as live translation, call logging, and calendar management. By launching the service, Deutsche Telekom is positioning itself against U.S. technology firms that have largely app‑based AI agents, signalling a shift from a purely telecommunications provider to a tech company and a commitment to lead the AI landscape in Germany.
