Alexander Hoffmann, head of the CSU regional group, warned the ruling coalition that the health reform risks detrimental cuts that need to be addressed. Speaking to “Focus” Hoffmann stated that their goal remains clear: they aim to maintain both peak medical standards in treatment and stability in contributions. Consequently, he stressed that any changes implemented cannot diminish the overall financial volume. The goal is to successfully conclude the reform package by July.
However, Hoffmann simultaneously announced that a thorough examination of the reform is necessary. He indicated that the government factions intend to utilize the parliamentary procedure to intensively review the statutory health insurance reform bill and implement potential corrections. According to the CSU politician, this review process will advance the reform to ensure the overall package is viewed as equitable.
This discussion follows the cabinet’s introduction of a saving act for health insurance providers last week, designed to maintain long-term stability in contributions. Ultimately, by implementing the reform, the federal government hopes to achieve savings of 16.3 billion euros in the coming year.
