The CSU general secretary, Martin Huber, expressed concern that members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) present on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference might hand sensitive information over to U.S. Republicans. Speaking on RTL’s “Frühstart” and ntv on Friday, Huber said, “I do not trust the AfD. It can be seen, for example, in the many parliamentary inquiries the AfD submits, many of which contain sensitive details about critical infrastructure”. He added that the depth of these inquiries raises questions about who would actually benefit from such information, pointing out the ongoing risk that the AfD could disseminate sensitive content.
Nevertheless, Huber emphasized that it is the decision of the event organizers who to invite. “From my impression, no prominent AfD representatives are invited” he said. This year, for the first time in two years, three AfD Bundestag members are scheduled to attend officially. Huber noted that the AfD’s foreign‑policy spokesperson, Fröhnmaier, is not invited to the conference, yet he still travels to Munich and is desperately attempting to secure appointments. “That is more a sign that the AfD are wannabes and can’t get anything right”.
