Despite the CSU’s relatively weak performance in Bavaria’s municipal elections, its Bundestag group chairman, Alexander Hoffmann, maintains that the party’s anti‑green line is justified.
Hoffmann told the “Tagesspiegel” that in Munich’s mayoral race it was not a green who won but that Dieter Reiter was voted out. He added that a similar pattern occurred in Baden‑Württemberg, where the election was won not by the Greens but by Cem Özdemir. “During the campaign he did everything to give the impression that he had nothing to do with the Greens” Hoffmann said.
He criticised the Greens for their work in opposition in the Bundestag, describing them as “increasingly turning into a populist party”. Hoffmann cited the “traffic‑light” coalition under Robert Habeck as evidence of how dangerous green ideology can be for democracy and the German economy. With regard to the heating law, he accused the Greens of being ready to accept massive societal upheaval, while defending the new points put forward by the Union and SPD. He argued that the current trend toward heat pumps should not be stifled and that a CDU/CSU-SPD coalition would allow people the freedom to choose their heating solutions.
