CSU blasts CDU demand for child social media ban says symbolic politics do nothing

The CSU has sharply criticized the CDU’s proposal for a ban on social media for children and young people. Secretary General Martin Huber told the Tagesspiegel (Tuesday edition) that “symbolic politics does not help” and that, while the party shares many parents’ concerns, it is skeptical of a blanket ban. He remains “cautious about whether a social‑media ban would achieve the desired effect”.

The smallest partner in the Berlin coalition, however, does not intend to halt the CDU and SPD‑backed plan during its preparatory phase in the relevant ministries. Huber added, “We will scrutinise the concrete proposals that come forward” and noted that the party would “evaluate them calmly”.
