Craftsmen Demand End to Controversial One Thousand Euro Stimulus Package

In light of sharp criticism from the business sector, the Central Association of German Crafts (ZDH) is calling on the federal government to immediately halt its plans for a relief bonus of over 1,000 euros per employee. ZDH President Jörg Dittrich told the “Bild-Zeitung” that it would be advisable for the state to quickly abandon this questionable idea and replace it with an alternative proposal. The desired measures, he stated, should finally bring relief to those who are performing well. Dittrich criticized the bonus, calling it socially unjust and economically misguided. He argued that by implementing it, the state is not only offloading responsibility onto already heavily burdened businesses, but it also risks damaging social cohesion in the country, which he feels is the last thing the nation needs right now. The core issue, according to ZDH, is not whether the money should be paid, but whether the businesses can afford it. He pointed out that many crafts businesses find themselves in a difficult position without fault, despite working diligently and innovatively. The current financial difficulties are visible in the cancellations of public sector representatives due to a lack of funding. This situation risks creating a two-tier society, dividing those who can pay from those who cannot. This stratification, he warned, generates disappointment among employees and frustration among business owners, a sentiment reflected in the increasingly heated public debate.
