Condor Asks Global Markets Halt Emissions Trading Amid Kerosene Shortage Threat

Amid the global kerosene shortage stemming from the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Peter Gerber, CEO of the German airline Condor, has called for a temporary halt to emissions trading for a period of six months.

Speaking on Sunday during the ARD broadcast “Bericht aus Berlin” Gerber suggested this pause would be the simplest way to stabilize prices and protect consumers from potential spikes in the second half of the year. According to him, suspending the trading would effectively remove speculative fuel pricing from the market, potentially ensuring a much more relaxed summer for everyone.

Alternatively, Gerber also suggested the implementation of a fuel discount for airlines, a measure that has been advocated by the airport association. He noted that this discount would have been a logical step and stressed that the federal government could still adopt the measure retroactively.
