In the final matchday of the Bundesliga, 1. FC Köln drew 2-2 against Eintracht Frankfurt. Both teams started the match briskly but were unable to convert their chances. While the home side dominated possession, Köln primarily focused on creating danger through counter-attacks.
Following halftime, Eintracht initially assumed control of the game until the match became chaotic starting in the 66th minute. Jonathan Burkardt took the lead for SGE following a solo run by Fares Chaibi from five meters out. Less than three minutes later, Arnaud Kalimuendo extended the advantage to 2-0. However, FC managed to respond immediately with a deflected shot from Jakub Kaminski. In the 83rd minute, it was a combination involving the recently substituted players Luca Waldschmidt, Marius Bülter, and finally Alessio Castro-Montes that secured the equalizer.
With this draw, the Cologne club maintained their slim two-point lead over the relegation spots, while SGE now trails the sixth-placed Bayer Leverkusen by ten points. Next Sunday, the team will play in a relegation clash against Werder Bremen. Meanwhile, Eintracht will visit relegation-threatened VfL Wolfsburg the day before.
