CDU Urges States for Support to Save Tax Reform Plan

The finance policy spokesperson for the CDU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Fritz Güntzler, warned the state premiers against undermining the planned tax reform. Speaking to the “Bild” newspaper, Güntzler stated that the states’ refusal to support what he called the “relief premium” represents a significant obstacle to the planned tax relief. He emphasized that if the states are unable to even compensate for potential tax losses totaling 1.1 billion euros, they should reconsider discussing a large-scale tax reform altogether.

Güntzler stressed the urgent need for genuine relief for both citizens and businesses. He publicly demanded a commitment, particularly from the CDU and CSU state premiers, to support a major tax reform. He challenged them, stating, “I urge the premiers of the Union to clarify whether they still want a major tax reform, or if their approval during the adoption of the coalition agreement a year ago has now become void”.
