After a narrow defeat in the Baden-Württemberg state elections, the CDU aims to win back disappointed voters by promising tax cuts that are already included in the coalition agreement but have yet to be implemented.
Parliamentary chief of staff Steffen Bilger, head of the CDU faction in the Bundestag, told the German newspaper Tagesspiegel that the governing coalition must deliver far more than it has so far to advance the country and regain voters’ trust. “General dissatisfaction with politics is high, and people are impatient” he said.
Bilger highlighted a concrete example: the tax cut that the CDU and SPD agreed on a year ago. “The cut for low- and middle‑income earners will come” he added. Coalition partners are unified on introducing the relief in the next federal budget, and the federal finance minister will soon present a proposal.
