CDU Proposes Immediate Refusal of Refugees at EU Borders from Safe Third Countries

The Brussels branch of the CDU plans to immediately turn away asylum seekers who arrive from so‑called “safe third countries” into the EU at the EU’s external borders, without any assessment. This proposal was presented at the CDU federal party conference in Stuttgart, as reported by the Bild on Monday.

The delegates are calling for a new EU regulation that would allow such instant returns. To safeguard the measure against challenges based on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), they want the refusals to be protected by an additional protocol to the Convention.

The association also aims to raise the thresholds for naturalisation sharply. Among the measures they suggest are higher language‑proficiency requirements and a rule that applicants must have lived at least five years without receiving social assistance. Already naturalised citizens who chant “Khalifat” or “Sharia law” at demonstrations would lose their German passports.

“Both the German federal government and the EU are on the right track in fighting illegal migration” said Tim Peters, chairman of the CDU Brussels branch, to the newspaper. “Now it is time to step up the next gear”.
