In the Rhineland-Palatinate state election the CDU emerged as the strongest party, according to the 6 p.m. forecasts from ARD and ZDF.
On average the Christian Democrats secured 30.5 percent of the vote, with the SPD close behind at 26.8 percent.
The AfD followed at around 20.0 percent, while the Greens rounded out the top four at roughly 8.0 percent.
The FDP (2.1 percent) and the Free Voters (3.8 percent) did not enter the state parliament. Likewise, the Left failed to clear the five‑percent threshold, polling at 4.5 percent; the “Others” category also averaged about 4.5 percent.
These numbers are derived from post‑election surveys conducted by Infratest for ARD and the Electoral Research Group for ZDF on Sunday in the polling stations.
