The CDU has voiced significant criticism regarding the failure to provide citizens with further financial relief. Dennis Radtke, the party’s head of the employee wing, is now calling for a replacement for the abandoned €1,000 relief bonus. Radtke told “Der Stern” that the fact that there is neither a reparative attempt nor a planned alternative solution for the €1,000 premium is highly disappointing, calling it a broken political promise. He added that the governing coalition is currently encountering substantial headwinds, emphasizing the importance of not failing to meet the high expectations built up and not losing any further trust.
This criticism follows the decision by the coalition committee on Tuesday evening not to pursue the €1,000 relief bonus, which had previously failed during a session of the Bundesrat. No direct replacement was approved.
Instead, Radtke has proposed alternative measures. He suggests that the government should consider taxing up to €1,000 this year as income paid through contractual special payments, such as Christmas bonuses or overtime compensation. According to Radtke, this would be a pragmatic method to recognize the employees’ performance and provide concrete relief, especially for those in small and medium income brackets.
