CDU Business Council Praises Halt to Federal Relief Bonus

The CDU Economic Council welcomed the Federal Council’s decision to veto the relief bonus planned by the federal government. Speaking to the press, Wolfgang Steiger, the General Secretary of the economic association, declared that the decision to halt the 1,000 Euro bonus was “correct and consistent”. Steiger reminded reporters that the Council had criticized the measure from the outset, arguing that it unfairly and unilaterally shifts responsibility onto employers during an already challenging economic period.

Beyond criticizing the failed financial measure, Steiger used the platform to demand deeper governmental action. He urged the federal government to move past what he termed “short-term symbolic politics” insisting that what is truly needed are comprehensive structural reforms. These suggested reforms include overhauling tax policy, enacting genuine bureaucratic reductions, and generally strengthening the nation’s economic standing.

The tax-free relief bonus, which allows companies to pay up to 1,000 Euros to their employees, is therefore on hold. This comes after the Federal Council unexpectedly withheld its approval on Friday for a legislative draft that had already been passed by the Bundestag.
