BVB appoints Book as new sporting director following Kehl’s departure

After the departure of Sebastian Kehl, Borussia Dortmund has announced that Nils‑Ole Book will become its new sporting director. The club confirmed on Monday that the 40‑year‑old will start in the role this Wednesday. Book will sign a contract that runs until 30 June 2029, following the release clause that Elversberg triggered.

“With Ole Book we have secured our ideal candidate for the sporting director position at the BVB” said BVB sporting director Lars Ricken. Ricken has followed Book’s career at Elversberg from his first days as sporting director to his recent promotion to the club’s sports board, and he is convinced that Book “fits both technically and personally”.

Book’s playing career included stints with Rot Weiss Ahlen, MSV Duisburg and SV Wehen Wiesbaden before he retired in the summer of 2017. That same year he joined SV Elversberg as a scout. He was promoted to sporting director in 2018 and then to the sports board in 2023. While at Elversberg Book managed two successive promotions in 2022 and 2023, guiding the club from the Regionalliga into the 2nd Bundesliga.
