Steffen Kampeter, the Managing Director of the German Employers’ Associations (BDA), sharply rejected the German government’s proposal for a tax-free premium of 1,000 euros for employees. Speaking to “Bild” (Wednesday edition), he stated that the coalition’s promises of relief are actually creating burdens for companies. He added that this premium is facing considerable resistance among many employers. Kampeter criticized the current economic climate, noting that the economy has failed to advance since 2019. “Costs are rising. Companies simply cannot afford this anymore” he argued. Instead of placing additional pressure on businesses, the opposite needs to occur. The BDA chief emphasized that what is needed now is relief, not an added burden to labor costs.
