Bundeswehr Officer Suspended Over Alleged Leak of Long‑Range Arms Plans

The German Defence Ministry has apparently suspended an officer on suspicion that he disclosed sensitive information about long‑term weapons projects. Internal investigations appear to have confirmed that the officer forwarded a classified list of planned procurement projects to unauthorized third parties, the weekly magazine “Der Spiegel” reports.

The alleged breach is considered so serious that the ministry is said to have obtained a seizure order from the public prosecutorate by filing a complaint, enabling the authorities to search the officer’s private mobile phone and computer for evidence. The soldier has since been suspended, lost his security clearance, and faces the possibility of dismissal, according to the report.

When asked, the ministry declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
