Bundesnetzagentur Warns of Rising Gas Prices

The German Federal Network Agency warned that the recent surge in gas prices is a cause for concern.
Klaus Müller, President of the agency, told the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday that the sharp price jumps following the outbreak of war are “intense”. He noted that day‑ahead wholesale prices have risen by roughly a factor of two.

Müller said the outlook will hinge on how long the conflict lasts. While the core assessment of supply security remains unchanged-markets still have enough gas-the higher prices are a challenge.

“This makes filling the storage tanks for the upcoming winter difficult” he added. “Storage is not a state duty; it falls to gas traders who are directly accountable to their private and industrial customers”.

At present, Germany’s gas storage level stands at 22 %.
