BundesKartellamt Flags Early Gasoline Price Hikes Before Iran War, Urges Drivers to Check Pump Prices

The president of Germany’s Federal Cartel Office, Andreas Mundt, urged motorists to scrutinise fuel prices before they fill up. “In this dynamic situation we recommend consistently comparing prices and double‑checking the rules you normally use” Mundt told the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday.

Peak prices still tend to appear in the early morning. Consumers can check the latest fuel‑price data at any time through the market‑transparency office for fuels run by the Bundeskartellamt.

Mundt said that after the onset of the military strikes, prices rose on average by about five to six cents per litre, while the preceding days saw increases of roughly four cents per litre. “Even the expectation of a tightening situation had already pushed procurement costs and prices up” he added. The developments largely mirrored the jump in crude‑oil prices and the fuel‑wholesale market.
