Berlin Airport Arrests Suspected Hamas Arms Smuggler in Ongoing Investigation

Police officers rounded up the 36‑year‑old Mohammad S. at Berlin’s airport around 11 p.m. on Friday. The man, born in Lebanon and having flown in from Beirut, was on the Bundeskriminalamt’s wanted list. Federal prosecutors accuse him of being a Hamas member and of belonging to a team of so‑called overseas operatives that procure firearms and ammunition for attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets across Europe. Investigators say he was responsible for acquiring roughly 300 live rounds for the group.

This arrest is part of a larger string of raids. In October, three suspected Hamas affiliates were already detained in Berlin during a weapons handover. Additional alleged traffickers were caught in London and when entering from the Czech Republic. Mohammad S. is to be transported from Berlin to Karlsruhe, where he will appear before a Federal Court investigative judge. His legal counsel was initially unreachable for comment.
