Despite having several good scoring opportunities in the first half against the already crowned champions, Wolfsburg struggled to capitalize on them. Bayern’s goalkeeper, Kamil Grabara, was notably strong, making several crucial saves that helped keep his team in the game. Bayern also missed a clear chance when Harry Kane hit a penalty kick, tripping and sending the ball sailing wide on the right side of the goal.
The decisive goal came from Michael Olise in the 56th minute. Olise received a pass from Laimer, executed a double step-over on Maehle, and curled the ball irresistibly into the far corner just under the crossbar.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany changed the lineup to introduce fresh legs, including Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano, aiming to gain more stability during the surprisingly open contest. The defeat eliminates any realistic chances for Wolfsburg of securing a safe spot in the league. Meanwhile, both Cologne and Werder Bremen have now clinched their status. Furthermore, the match on the final day against St. Pauli will turn into a true end-of-season fight for the 16th relegation spot. Wolfsburg currently occupies this exact spot, while St. Pauli sits immediately below them at 17th, tied on points. An additional consideration is that if the team currently at the bottom, Heidenheim, manages to win their game against Cologne on Sunday, the FCH could theoretically still claw back the relegation spot.
