Bavarian Minister‑President and CSU leader has expressed opposition to a proposal from portions of the SPD and CDU that would restrict social‑media access for teenagers.
He told the “Mediengruppe Bayern” (Wednesday edition) that “friends of the Social Democratic Party are often quick to push for bans, so I am cautious about such measures”. He added that while many topics merit discussion, restricting youth access is not currently one of the most pressing concerns.
Instead, Söder said a clearer requirement for users to disclose their real names online would be more important. He compared it to the practical logic behind mask bans at street demonstrations: “If we can forbid masking in public protests for good reasons, why can’t we impose the same standard in the digital realm? That would change a lot”.
