After the Green Party’s success in the Baden-Württemberg state election, party leader Felix Banaszak sees fresh momentum for the federal party. In an interview with ARD’s Morning Magazine on Monday, he said, “The Greens can win elections again if they combine two things: clear policy positions and a broad appeal to the public”.
Banaszak added that the campaign of top candidate Cem Özdemir is a source of “tailwind” demonstrating that “when approached right, it can bring us a lot of advantage”.
He estimates the party is currently steadied in the polls at 13-14 percent but believes it can climb higher. “We want the Greens to become an orienting force for a wide swath of the population again, showing that we consider the entire society while conveying a clear vision for forward‑looking change”.
