One day after the attack on the ICE 19 near Siegburg left ten people with minor injuries, investigators have uncovered new details regarding the suspected perpetrator. According to the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” citing security sources, the 20-year-old suspect is classified by the Aachen State Security under the category of “right-wing politically motivated crime”. The individual is also reportedly suffering from significant psychological issues.
The events began on Thursday evening when the man boarded an ICE train at Aachen’s main station. Shortly after boarding, he allegedly sent emails to various media outlets and the Federal Government, announcing an attack on the route from Cologne to Frankfurt. In these messages, he reportedly expressed his intent to kill as many people as possible using a knife.
The emergency was reported to the local control center via a call from an ICE passenger, which occurred before the media had the chance to alert the Federal Police or local authorities. During the call, the passenger reported that an explosive device had been detonated in a carriage and that the individual was now trapped inside a restroom. At the time of the call, the passenger was unaware of any injuries.
