Adis Ahmetovic, the SPD spokesperson for foreign policy, demanded that Friedrich Merz’s visit to the SPD parliamentary group be preceded by an acknowledgement of past mistakes. Speaking to “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” Ahmetovic stated, “I expect humility and clarity”. He asserted that Merz needs to credibly demonstrate “what he wants to improve in the future”-particularly regarding his communication style. Furthermore, the spokesperson insisted that Merz must provide clarity by articulating a positive future vision that offers direction and successfully involves both the parliament and the general public, noting that this must happen immediately. Merz is scheduled to appear at the SPD group on Tuesday afternoon, where he is expected to first address the press alongside SPD group leader Matthias Miersch.
