According to a weekly poll conducted for the broadcasters RTL and ntv, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) has matched the Union in voter favorability, reaching 26 percent. In this latest measurement, the AfD gained a percentage point. Meanwhile, the BSW has dropped below the three-percent threshold and is no longer reported separately. The percentages for the Greens (15 percent), the SPD (12 percent), and Die Linke (10 percent) remained unchanged from the previous week. The proportion of non-voters and undecided individuals remains high at 26 percent, which is significantly above the non-voter rate recorded during the last federal election (17.9 percent).
Regarding the satisfaction with the work of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), only 20 percent of the general public (-3 points) are currently satisfied. This marks the lowest satisfaction rating Forsa has recorded for Merz to date. Furthermore, this rating is significantly lower than the previous rating for his predecessor, Scholz (July 2024, 23 percent). A clear majority, 78 percent, are dissatisfied with Merz’s performance. Even among CDU/CSU supporters, just over half (57 percent) are satisfied with the current chancellor’s work.
When assessing political competence, the Union lost a point, while the Greens and AfD each gained one point. Consequently, 16 percent of the population trust the CDU/CSU most, 13 percent trust the AfD, 8 percent trust the Greens, 4 percent trust the SPD, and 3 percent trust The Left Party to handle the problems facing Germany. Notably, 53 percent do not trust any party with political competence.
The poll was conducted between March 31 and April 2, 2026, involving a total of 1,503 respondents.
