AfD Gains Electoral Ground Surpassing Concerns About Government Reforms

According to research conducted by Forsa for the TV channels RTL and ntv, the AfD continues to expand its lead in voter favorability, particularly in the run-up to potential major government reforms. The party’s support stands at 27 percent, increasing by one percentage point since the last survey. Conversely, the opposition Union continues to slide, now resting at 22 percent. This marks the lowest recorded poll figure for the CDU and CSU from Forsa since early December 2021.

Other major parties show mixed results. The SPD remains stable at 12 percent. The Linke also holds steady at 12 percent, marking a gain of one percentage point. The Greens, FDP, and “Others” maintain their polling rates at 15, 4, and 8 percent, respectively. Overall, the percentage of non-voters and undecided voters remains high at 26 percent, significantly higher than the 17.9 percent recorded during the last federal election.

In terms of satisfaction with the chancellor’s work, the figures hit a new low. Only 15 percent of Germans are satisfied with Merz’ performance, while 83 percent are dissatisfied. It is notable that even among the Union’s supporters, a majority is unhappy with the chancellor’s management. Forsa reports that such low satisfaction ratings for Merz have never been measured for his predecessor, Olaf Scholz (SPD).
