AfD Forms New Working Group As It Prepares for Possible State Power

The AfD is preparing internally for a potential role in governments across several German states. According to the Bild (Monday edition), the party’s federal board has established a “Government Participation Working Group” for this purpose.

The group will comprise two full‑time positions, including a qualified lawyer, with an estimated annual cost of roughly €185,000, as reported by the Bild citing the relevant board resolution.

Its main task is to plan personnel and strategy ahead of the state elections in Saxony‑Anhalt and Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern. The AfD leadership anticipates significant political and legal opposition from other state levels and civil‑society actors if it were to join a government. Consequently, the working group will analyse potential scenarios and develop protective and counter‑measures strategies.
