AfD Delegates Skip Rita Süssmuth Memorial in Bundestag

At the formal mourning session for Rita Süssmuth in the German Bundestag on Tuesday, a large portion of the AfD faction was absent. Although the front row included party and faction leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, seats behind them quickly emptied. In total, only about 30 out of more than 150 AfD members attended-roughly 80 % were not present-while MPs from other parties were largely represented. Süssmuth, a CDU politician, served as Minister of Family Affairs from 1985 to 1988 and as President of the Bundestag from 1988 to 1998. She passed away on 1 February at the age of 88.
