The AfD faction in the Bavarian state parliament is calling for the nationalisation of gas storage facilities. They argue that the low fill levels of storage sites in Bavaria and the long‑term wholesale gas price outlook are so alarming that the CSU‑led state government should lobby at the federal level to transfer control of the Breitbrunn storage site from the federal company Uniper SE to the Free State of Bavaria.
“Only through such a transfer can strategic control over the operation, filling, and readiness of this critical storage be guaranteed” said Oskar Lipp, the AfD’s industrial policy spokesperson, on Friday.
The party also urges an assessment of whether Bavaria can directly purchase the Wolfersberg storage or at least take a substantial stake in it. Their objective is again to place the filling, operation, and strategic readiness of the facility under state control, thereby ensuring long‑term supply security.
