73% of Germans Say Germany Will Struggle With More Iranian Refugees

A recent poll conducted by Forsa for “Stern” and RTL found that a clear majority – 73 percent – of Germans believe their country would struggle to accommodate further Iranian refugees. The survey, which interviewed 1,000 adults on 19 and 20 March, showed that 80 percent of CDU/CSU supporters and a striking 98 percent of AfD voters share this skepticism. Even among SPD voters (63 percent) and supporters of the Left, doubts prevail, although the results for Green supporters are more optimistic; most of them see no major problems arising.

Forsa had carried out a comparable poll in November 2022, this time concerning the potential admission of additional refugees from Ukraine. At that time, about half of Germans, as well as CDU/CSU and SPD supporters, indicated that the country could handle a larger influx of refugees. By contrast, 89 percent of AfD voters expected significant difficulties.
