VfL Wolfsburg has parted ways with head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl immediately, the club announced on Sunday evening. Assistant coaches Craig Fleming and Patrick Hasenhüttl will also be leaving the team. For the remainder of the season, which includes two remaining matches on Friday against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and on May 17 against Borussia Mönchengladbach, U19 coach Daniel Bauer will take over the team. His team will include U19 co-coach Julian Klamt and U16 head coach Tobias Holm.
VfL Wolfsburg’s executive director Peter Christiansen spoke about the decision: “Ralph Hasenhüttl took over the VfL Wolfsburg in a difficult phase last season. He was able to stabilize the team and guide them to safer waters. We thank him for that. However, the results and development in the past months have led us to decide to react now. This decision was made in close consultation with the supervisory board’s presidium.”
Interim coach Bauer has been with the club’s youth department for nine years and will lead the first training session with the senior team on Monday. “Daniel is a man from within the club, who knows us very well and has been successful in the youth department. We still have goals left in the season and are convinced that Daniel can provide the team with a fresh impulse with his high passion and identification” explained sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz.
