Xiaomi Drives into Germany Auto Ambitions Rise

Xiaomi is poised to enter the European automotive market, targeting a launch in 2027 and prioritizing Germany as a critical initial hub. The Chinese technology giant is establishing a significant presence in Munich, where it has already created a research and development center staffed by over 50 specialists. A company spokesperson confirmed the development when responding to inquiries.

The Munich-based team is currently undergoing expansion, evidenced by the publication of over 20 job openings on LinkedIn, seeking automotive and software engineers. The company is also actively recruiting experts to handle the complex process of securing vehicle certifications within Germany and the European Union. Sources indicate that Xiaomi is already engaged in discussions with German regulatory authorities to navigate the necessary approval procedures.

This strategic move in Munich underscores Xiaomi’s international growth ambitions within the automotive sector. The company has already achieved notable success in China, with sales exceeding 300,000 units of its all-electric SU7 model. Xiaomi highlighted that Munich offers “immediate access to decades of experience” spanning a wide range of automotive disciplines, including performance dynamics, electric vehicle architecture and stringent process and validation standards. The company intends to forge collaborations with German universities and industry partners to strengthen its operational foothold in the region.
