Wissing Declares AI Security a Competitive Advantage!

German Transport Minister Volker Wissing sees data security as a competitive advantage for Germany in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). “I am sure that there will be a global demand for trustworthy AI from Europe” he told the Tagesspiegel.

According to Wissing, the question will be: “Would I like a trustworthy product ‘made in Germany’ or one from regions of the world where I don’t know what happens to my data?” He looks at the new Chinese AI model Deepseek, writing in a statement, “The security of the data, the trust in the algorithm is just as important as the functionality. Especially in critical areas like energy supply or the financial sector, utmost caution is necessary.”

At the same time, the example of Deepseek shows, “Size is not everything. There are opportunities to develop significantly more cost-effective AI models with smaller computing structures. Even for us, a lot is possible.” The German Minister emphasizes the need to “interpret the AI Act of the European Union as innovation-friendly as possible and implement it into national law.
