Washington, D.C. – US President Donald Trump is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the near future to discuss an agreement granting the US access to the oil reserves stored in Ukraine. According to Trump, the parties are “very close” to reaching an agreement and he emphasized the US’ efforts to aid Ukraine, stating, “We’re helping Ukraine, like no one has ever helped Ukraine before.”
Trump also warned of the potential for the Ukraine conflict to escalate into a third world war, citing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s alleged plans to deploy European peacekeeping troops in Ukraine as part of a possible agreement to end the war. “If we make this deal, he won’t look for a world war” Trump said.
French President Emmanuel Macron praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people in defending against the Russian invasion and also commended Trump’s efforts, but noted the importance of European state aid to Ukraine. Macron emphasized the need for a “lasting peace with security” that would lead to the rebuilding of Ukraine.
