Will the Party's Election Slate be Sealed in Potsdam?

The Free Democratic Party (FDP) gathered at a special party convention in Potsdam on Sunday. The event, which started about 15 minutes late, was opened by party vice chairman Wolfgang Kubicki in the late morning. The brief, four-hour meeting is intended to mark the beginning of the final phase of the election campaign for the federal election.

The party aims to pass a so-called election appeal, which will include key points from its election program. The FDP’s main focus is on an economic turnaround and the appeal will also mention the goal of forming a black-yellow coalition and rule out an alliance with the Greens.

Additionally, several speeches are planned for the party convention. The party’s top candidate for the Hamburg election, Katarina Blume, will address the delegates first, followed by the speech of federal chairman Christian Lindner. The closing remarks will be delivered by general secretary Marco Buschmann.

According to reports, the Liberals aim to demonstrate unity at the party convention. Two weeks before the federal election, they are trailing behind the five-percent threshold in most polls. Kubicki had previously warned that the party’s very existence is at risk if it fails in the election.
