Berlin, Germany – In a show of diplomatic efforts, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to arrive in the German capital on Wednesday.
According to a report by the German news magazine, Der Spiegel, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will hold talks with Zelensky to discuss potential steps to facilitate further technical negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on a ceasefire agreement. The Chancellor will also brief the Ukrainian leader on the European Union’s plans for a new sanctions package against Russia, aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow to engage in serious talks.
During his visit, Zelensky is expected to meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in addition to the Chancellor. The agenda also includes discussions on military support for Ukraine.
