Actor Robert Pattinson has been particularly drawn to the concept of rebirth and its adaptation on the big screen in his new film “Mickey 17”.
“When I first read the script, I found it really funny and a bit crazy” he told the Luxembourgish newspaper “L’essentiel”.
For the 39-year-old, it is not crucial how serious or absurd a story may seem at first glance: “The deeper one immerses themselves in the story, the sadder it is, even if it is not told in a sad manner. I wanted to try to capture this tone in my acting” Pattinson said.
He also had a strong desire to work with Bong Joon-ho, the director of “Mickey 17”. “He is a great master. From ‘Parasite’ to ‘Snowpiercer’ to ‘Okja’ for example – if one looks at his entire filmography, it is impossible not to trust him” the actor said. “He is an absolutely unique artist. His scripts are original and funny. His works function in every film genre. There are only very few directors who are capable of that.”
In the science fiction film “Mickey 17”, Pattinson plays a space colonist who is employed for dangerous tasks on a spaceship. When he dies, he is replaced by a clone who continues where his previous version left off.
