Wholesale Prices Edge Up

Wholesale prices in Germany increased in June 2025, marking a continued upward trend compared to the previous year. According to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Friday, wholesale selling prices rose by 0.9 percent in June 2025, compared to June 2024.

This represents an acceleration from the 0.4 percent increase recorded in May 2025 and a slight increase from the 0.8 percent rise observed in April 2025. Month-over-month, wholesale prices edged up by 0.2 percent in June 2025, compared to May 2025.

The primary driver of the overall increase in wholesale prices year-on-year was a significant rise in prices for food and beverages, tobacco products. Average prices in this sector were 4.2 percent higher than in June 2024. Notably, prices for coffee, tea, cocoa and spices saw a substantial increase of 26.2 percent at the wholesale level, while prices for sugar, confectionery and baked goods climbed by 18.2 percent. Consumers also paid more for dairy products, eggs, cooking oils and edible fats, with an increase of 8.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Prices for non-ferrous metals and semi-finished products also saw a considerable increase, rising 20.5 percent year-on-year.

Conversely, wholesale prices for solid fuels and mineral oil products were 5.9 percent lower than in June 2024.

Prices for recycled materials and waste, iron, steel and related products and data processing and peripheral equipment also declined, falling by 6.1 percent, 5.4 percent and 5.0 percent respectively, compared to June 2024.
