A new leader has been elected for the CDU’s Seniors’ Union, with Helge Benda, a 79-year-old from Castrop-Rauxel, taking the reins on a provisional basis. The announcement was made by the CDU’s pre-electoral organization on Monday, following the resignation of Fred-Holger Ludwig due to health reasons.
Benda will lead the Seniors’ Union until the next election of the federal executive board at the federal delegates’ convention in Magdeburg in August 2025 and as a result, he will also be a member of the CDU’s federal executive board in Germany.
In a statement on Monday, Benda emphasized the importance of a strong Seniors’ Union as a social voice for the older generations. “With Friedrich Merz at the helm of the CDU, we have a chairman who advocates for the interests of all generations”he said. “The older generation is a pillar of our society – their engagement and needs must be taken into account.
