German Politician Expresses Caution on Delivering Taurus Missiles to Ukraine

In a recent interview, Alexander Hoffmann, the chairman of the CSU-Landesgruppe in the German Bundestag, expressed a measured tone on the potential delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Hoffmann emphasized the need for a unified European approach, stating that strategic discussions should not be conducted in public.

He reiterated that the understanding surrounding the Taurus system has always been that it would be deployed in line with European consensus, rather than through a solo effort. Hoffmann also emphasized the importance of a preparatory phase, during which key questions would be addressed before a final decision is made.

The chairman’s comments came in the context of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj, which he clarified was not specifically focused on securing agreements for specific weapon systems. Instead, Hoffmann suggested that the discussion centered on financial support and finding a partnership-based approach that would ultimately lead to a peaceful outcome for Ukraine. The politician emphasized that the main headlines of the day would revolve around these larger themes, rather than individual weapon systems.
