German wholesale prices rose in January 2025. They were 0.9 percent higher than in the same month of the previous year, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Friday. In December, the change rate compared to the same month of the previous year was +0.1 percent and in November, it was -0.6 percent. Compared to the previous month, wholesale prices in January also rose by 0.9 percent.
The main reason for the overall increase in wholesale prices compared to the previous year was the price increase in the wholesale of non-iron ores, non-iron metals and semi-finished products made of these (+24.4 percent). Coffee, tea, cocoa and spices were also significantly more expensive on the wholesale level (+34.4 percent) as were sugar, confectionery and baked goods (+11.0 percent) as well as milk, dairy products, eggs, edible oils and food fats (+7.0 percent).
Lower, on the other hand, were the prices in the wholesale of iron, steel and semi-finished products made of these (-6.3 percent) as well as in the wholesale of data processing and peripheral devices (-6.2 percent). The prices in the wholesale of chemical products also fell below those of January 2024 (-2.6 percent).
