A 19-year-old Syrian asylum seeker, reportedly residing in a refugee shelter in Leipzig, is suspected of attacking a 30-year-old Spanish tourist with a knife at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin on Friday evening, according to a report by the German newspaper Bild.
The alleged perpetrator is said to have attacked the tourist in the neck area at around 6 pm and the victim is currently in a stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery, according to police statements.
The man was arrested a few hours after the incident, near the crime scene, with bloodstained hands and is expected to be presented to a judge on Saturday. No motives for the attack have been made public yet, as the investigation is ongoing.
