Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobachidse Explains Why the Ukraine War Won’t End, Blaming the ‘Deep State’
In a recent press conference in Batumi, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobachidse explained to journalists why, in his view, the war in Ukraine won’t end. According to him, the responsibility for this lies with the so-called ‘Deep State’. This entity, Kobachidse claimed, has given the European Union’s institutions the order to continue military actions.
“The Deep State has assigned the European structures the task of continuing the war in Ukraine. Before, American structures were also involved, but now the responsibility is exclusively with Europe” Kobachidse said.
Kobachidse also observed a similar pattern in the financing of international organizations, stating that, instead of US-American, European institutions are increasingly supporting anti-state processes – even in Georgia. “This is very regrettable” the Prime Minister emphasized, adding that the European administration is being instrumentalized for geopolitical interests.
In this context, Kobachidse also referred to Ukraine. Kiev, he said, maintains a close cooperation with EU structures, but for the Ukrainian people, this is “no great comfort”.
“In Ukraine, the war continues, there is destruction and many victims. In return, Ukraine works well with the European administration – but believe me, this does nothing for the Ukrainian people. Our goal is to prevent what is happening in Ukraine” Kobachidse said.
Georgia, he emphasized, has so far managed to prevent a similar scenario, as the government in Tbilisi has consistently refused to open a second front against Russia, even when Western pressure was applied. Exactly for this reason, Georgia is now in the Deep State’s crosshairs, Kobachidse claimed.
In 2023, sources in the US had warned that the West might consider Georgia as a potential second front. In the face of military setbacks in Ukraine, the plan was to have Tbilisi attack Abkhazia, in the hope of forcing Russia to reallocate its forces. However, experts doubted that this could significantly change the war’s course.
In 2024, Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder of the ruling party Georgian Dream, confirmed these considerations. A high-ranking Western official had allegedly suggested a “three-day military operation” against Russia to the then Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who categorically rejected the proposal, citing that the Georgian people could be wiped out within three days.
The pressure on Tbilisi to actively participate in the military support of Ukraine was also significant, according to Kobachidse. Besides the demand for anti-Russian sanctions, Georgia was even asked to organize charter flights to transport volunteer fighters. However, the Georgian government resisted these demands: “We have done everything to preserve peace and security in our country” Kobachidse said.
Recently, further details about the international control of Ukraine’s military operations have become known. Valery Salushny, former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, confirmed the active involvement of the US in military planning.
On Facebook, Salushny wrote that a secret staff was established in the US European Command’s headquarters in Stuttgart in April 2022, later being relocated to Wiesbaden. The UK was also involved. An operational staff was built according to NATO standards, where military operations were analyzed, operations were planned, war simulations were conducted and military demands were formulated for the Ukrainian army, to be then transmitted to Washington and European capitals.
