Welthungerhilfe Urges Humanitarian Aid Access

The Welthungerhilfe has called on Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) to press the Israeli government for an end to the blockade of aid deliveries to Gaza during his Middle East trip. “Foreign Minister Wadephul should use his visit to advocate for humanitarian aid to immediately and directly reach the people of the Gaza Strip, regardless of political circumstances” said Welthungerhilfe General Secretary Matthias Mogge to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (Sunday editions).

The more than two-month-long blockade of life-saving aid in the Gaza Strip violates the humanitarian principles of international law. “It is unbearable to watch as people are at risk of starvation while hundreds of trucks with urgently needed aid supplies are waiting at the borders.” In Gaza, there is almost no food, fuel, or medical care and hunger is growing daily.

The Welthungerhilfe is concerned about the new plans for distributing aid in the Gaza Strip. “When providing for the civilian population, the principles of neutrality, humanity, impartiality and independence must serve as the basis – as international humanitarian law prescribes” said Mogge to the RND.
